Literature Text
She's at a crossroad again.
If she recalled correctly, then this was the fourth time in her entire life. She tentatively places a foot forward, on to the cool glass. Decisions were never my strong point, she thinks. Knowing that this could take anywhere between an hour to a few days, she takes off the bulky coat, spreading it out before taking a seat in the middle of the cross-section. There weren't going to be any passers-by after all.
Wait. I've...I've never looked back.
The thought crosses her mind for less than a second, but it clutches onto the messy vines inside her head and before she can stop herself, she's turning her head around looking over her shoulder and gazing into the mist-filled street. It's murky, grey, dark, and filled with heavy rain.
Why have I never looked back?
She doesn't know if that's really a question, or if it's something she's asking herself, but she definitely finds the confusion that comes with the thought loathsome, at best. Deciding not to wait for another epiphany, she gets up. Reaching the wall of silvery wisps, she slowly watches the ripples her fingers are creating in the surface. It doesn't let her through.
She can't fight it. The defeat spreads through her skin, and before she realises, she's shivering and walking backwards and away from the street.
Still trembling, she senses the water on her cheeks.
Tears?
It's said with an incredulous tone as she captures one with her hand and looks down at it.
Another thought.
She knows, that this isn't going to be as quick as it always has been. After all, it's not the first time she's hesitated when taking a turn down into one of these streets.
It's the first time she's felt afraid.

When I was six a phoenix
tried to drown me.
Underwater I grabbed for fire.
Like Icarus, I was reaching

I hope he still has

cradles searing scars.
He was death,
I was the bird.

If he drinks enough,
he thinks it’s love-

the silver drain smooth. Diver: 28 days
sweating, ship black against
sea. Like it had been peeled
from amber tongues.

On my fifteenth birthday, the boy
with stars on his fists and Saturn’s
rings in his eyes told me I was pretty.

Paper-Thin Promises
the first time I caught sight of your
glistening, marble eyes,
I decided you disgust me.
I hate you the way I hate perfection:
merciless, like the snap of mantis jaws.
every fact of you is pretentious,
held high like you raise a middle finger.
You, the artist, always sculpting things,
tried to squeeze my malleable heart like white clay
and stash it in your pocket to rattle with stones.
paint me an unflinching self portrait, my dear:
this skyscraper of a boy shaking with anticipation
to build and destroy, build and destroy.
you sink in tooth and talon at first mention of beauty,
love-biting Aphrodite as though you were equals.
you're a statu

and his fingers trail cold fire
down my side, scorching flesh
and freezing bone;
brittle pieces of me shatter
as they hit the stained linoleum floor.

i whisper a nursery rhyme

kamikaze leaves fall, trailing
fire as they throw themselves from
the branches, down, down,
to cold pavement below.
your words echo in my mind
a constant reminder
that i am sin
but you,

Thank you so much for the DD, especially to (If you haven't taken a look at her gallery yet, do so! Her gallery will probably cheer you up more than you think. ) for suggesting it and to for featuring it, and those who favourite-d it!
When I saw the little box on my deviation this morning, it took me at least half an hour of 'Ok, this isn't my deviation, or my profile that this is on, I must have clicked someone else's' and 'Maybe my browsers acting funny?' to get to the point where I thought hey! It's real!
